Magnesium nanocomposite as a wire material for additive manufacturing
Wire material for modern, sustainable manufacturing to produce lightweight components
Magnesium alloys enriched with very small ceramic particles exhibit very good mechanical properties. AlN particles of only a few nm were used here. The alloy is also protected against ignition because calcium has been added. This flame-resistant composite material can be used as a wire in additive manufacturing, where magnesium currently plays hardly any role because its affinity to oxygen is very high and at the same time there are concerns about flammability in arc or laser welding processes.
